GENERAL PODIATRY

General Podiatry includes treatment of nail conditions, painful skin lesions and for those people who have difficulty reaching down to their feet, we are here to provide complete foot care. Our treatment adheres to strict aseptic techniques and all instruments are autoclaved and handled in a sterile environment.

SPORTS PODIATRY

Sports podiatry focuses on treating foot and lower limb conditions and injuries that are the result of sports and exercise.

Sports podiatry isn’t just about short-term injury treatment.  The aim of a podiatrist is to accurately diagnose, prevent, and treat injuries and discomfort you may be experiencing in your feet and lower limbs as a result of sports and exercise.

Acute sports injuries

Acute sports injuries are caused by a single traumatic event. This may be something like a fall when running or an awkward landing when jumping. A prime example of an acute sports injury is an ankle sprain. Poor footwear, poor biomechanics and poor strength are often factors that may increase the risk of an acute sports injury.

Chronic sports injuries

Chronic sports injuries affecting the foot and lower leg are generally caused by overuse and biomechanical faults. When we play sport the foot and lower leg often takes forces up to three times your body weight. The increased forces places increased loads on muscles, tendons and joints. If you have poor lower leg biomechanics these loads may be increased on certain muscles and this can then lead to injury. Poor footwear, poor biomechanics, poor strength, poor conditioning,  and increased loads are often associated with chronic sports injuries.

INGROWN TOENAIL SURGERY

Ingrown toenails are a painful condition in which the toenail grows into the flesh around your toes causing redness, swelling and even infection when left untreated. They can be caused by a number of factors, from incorrect nail cutting techniques and ill-fitting footwear to an unavoidable hereditary disposition.

If the ingrown nail is treated early, treatment is usually fast and effective, but chronic sufferers may require ingrown toenail surgery. This simple “walk in and walk out” procedure is performed at Fixme Clinic by our highly trained Podiatrist. Nail surgery takes just 1 – 1.5 hours and will help cure an ingrown toenail for life.

NB. Any surgical or invasive procedure, including nail surgery performed under a local anaesthetic, carries risk. Before proceeding with nail surgery we always advise patients to seek opinion and consultation with our qualified Podiatrist first.

ORTHOTICS THERAPY

Orthotics or orthoses are medical devices which fit inside your shoes to correct and guide the motion of your feet. They work by correcting and supporting your foot’s arch and alignment to restore natural foot function. The most common biomechanical fault is over ‘pronation‘, which is the dropping of your arch causing flat feet, and the rolling inwards of your feet and ankles. Over pronation affects an estimated 70% of the population. Alternatively, high arches can lead to supination, or excessive rolling out of your feet. Both these conditions place stress on other areas of your body.

Correctly fitted orthotics will realign your feet and ankle bones to their neutral position and correct these anomalies. In turn, this will help alleviate painful symptoms not only in the feet but in other parts of your body, such as knee pain, shin pain, heel pain, and lower back pain.

Orthotics can be partially covered by ACC as long as the therapy would be relevant to your lower limb injury claim. Please discuss this with our Podiatrist during your consultation.

CHILDREN'S PODIATRY

Children’s feet are the corner stone to stability and lower leg mechanics. As children grow, they can be faced with a number of foot problems that affect lower leg mechanics. Many of them are common and will correct themselves with time, whilst others should be treated early for the most effective outcomes.

If you have any concern regarding your child’s feet or lower legs then you should seek advice from our Podiatrist. No issue is too small and our Podiatrist can diagnose & treat all children’s foot problems including gait issues, ingrown toenails and warts.

If your child is suffering from any lower leg symptoms, exhibits an awkward gait or walk, has flat feet, uneven shoe wear, poor posture and stability then you should schedule a consultation with our Podiatrist. No age is too young to visit us!
